Title is a little misleading. This is not a so called Christian Movie, but there are several references about Christianity or God in it. There is quite a bit ow swearing, and I suppose it did happen.
Now about the movie. It is an excellent tribute to those who pioneered heart surgery. Although it is about surgery, there is as much said about racial problems and progress as well.
We need more movies about true stories that help shape our country.

To me this was a well written story of young love that blossomed into a marriage.
That blacks in the civil war era had it hard even when free
isn't new, but that a group was trained as soldiers in
the north and actually fought in the south.
Matthew Broderick seems young for the leading officer, but the acting of Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington in this film is first rate.
I think had the ending not been so depressing that it might have gotten more awards. You finish this film thinking that they all died
and pretty much for nothing
as the fort was never taken.
This is one of my favorite films of all time, and I think the whole cast does a wonderful job of carrying the movie. It is the story of a group of German speaking nuns who need a miracle in order to build a church in a poor, desert town. The miracle comes in the form of an itinerant jack of all trades played by Poitier, whose faith is a little shabby around the edges. There is a lot of humor as the Mother Superior resorts to a little manipulation in order to see the church completed. Both Scala's character and Poitier's learn that they both needed to rely more on faith, and less on their own power. This is a movie for the whole family I think. It does deal with some issues on prejudice, and Poitier's character gets drunk at one point, but the Mother Superior sees that he does not enjoy the latter experience much. As for the way it dealt with prejudice, I thought it was well done for the time.
I absolutely love this movie. Have only ever seen it on TV never found the dvd of it. Thanx muchly, gr8 movie.
The film brings to the screen the 1839 Amistad incident when a slave ship experiencing a rebellion was seized by the U.S. Navy and towed into an American port. Subsequently, a trial will commence with the Cuban slavers, the Spanish government, and U.S. naval officers all vying for custody of the slaves while pitted at the same time against those supporting their release and safe return to Africa. The film provides for a very good description of the pre-Civil War era along with people and events slowly tearing at American society and by extension the country as whole.
In contrast to Amazon.com's narrow minded reviewer, Dave McCoy and his failed, off-the-target review, the movie actually does an excellent job of transporting the viewer to 19th Century United States and presenting important people like J.C. Calhoun, Martin Van Buren, and John Quincy Adams, groups like the abolitionists, institutions like slavery outside the USA as well the more "humane" American version of slavery, notions like Sectionalism, international law/treaties, international relations, the American judicial system, the American political system and much more.
Anthony Hopkins, Morgan Freeman, Matthew McConaughey, Djimon Hounsou, and the rest of the cast, have carried out their performances very well
Steven Spielberg's Amistad is very well written and very well presented allowing for a thought-provoking movie that will provide food for thought well after it is over as it offers valuable insight into a very important period of American History.
I bought it primarily because of Bernie Mac. It all would have been better if you could hear the comedians over the crowd.
This film give a brief but interesting look at the hardships and problems that these individuals suffered as a result of their race instead of their abilities. While there is a footnote to the fact that these individuals were the most decorated unit in the Air Corp, it does not follow-up with what happens to them after the war.
I received the DVD in excellent shape. It was new and in its jacket. When viewed the picture quality was excellent.
